Dive photos 2006
<13.12.2006>
I wonder what is it that has made me so damn indolent these days. I haven't updated my boating site, although I've been boating, I haven't updated my diving site although I have been diving. I quess I have put all my energy in finishing our new house, which we bought somewhat half-done last winter. Another reason to the fewness of new dive photos this year is that I've had all possible problems with my camera housing and the stobes and I actually haven't dared to take them under especially when we really haven't explored much new mining tunnels in Ojamo lately and there are plenty of pics from the old places already. Well, we have done new places, but it is a good idea to get very familiar with them before bringing more task load in. Our dives tend to deepen all the time and more stage cylinders must be used to obtain security while using ideal gas mixtures at each depths.I've received lots of encouraging comments about the photos and I know there are people who check this site regularely for new ones. I'm sorry I have disappointed those this year but just wait for 2007. There has been over 52000 visits to this site this year so far, but I don't have statistics about how many of them are unique. Whatsoever, this gives me a push to gather myself and improve.
Merry christmas and happy new year everyone!

Mauritius 24.1 - 5.2 2006 Ojamo mine 18.3.2006 Zenobia wreck 14.4 - 17.4 2006 Ojamo mine Intro to cave course 5.-7.5.2006 <8.5.2006>
I am a fresh IANTD Intro to cave -diver now and I feel good. Martin Robson and Vikki Batten trained more than 20 divers for cavern / intro to cave levels at Ojamo in 3 weeks and I appreciate their hard work for us. I was trained by Vikki. I'm suprised how she could see all the mistakes we made in our team of 3 even in a dark cave when she only flashed her tiny backup torch occasionally to check our position in a silt-out drill. We made 6 course dives, of which one check dive in an open water at 28m and 5 into a mining tunnels at 28 m level. It was great to have a through feedback right after each dive so we could make things better on the next one. I think our team made a good progress but one can allways do things better.Personally I did not learn actually new skills, but I got great advices to improve the old ones. A couple of things I'll allways remember from now on: -carry you frog kick all the way so that the fins meet each other to slide longer, and, on your way into a cave allways scan and memorize all possible signs along the line that might help you to locate yourself in a case of a silt-out or a light failure. I'm happy I took part in this course. I learned a lot about cave diving technics, I learned to know better the dive buddys who I basically haven't dived with earlier and last but not least, I've had a great opportunity to get to know a fantastic (and pretty too.. ;) dive instructor. Thanks Vikki!

Done the Zenobia again! Pullo and I choose to dive with the Dive-In guys this year and the choice couldn't have been better. Our guide, Chris has thousands of dives in Zenobia and probably nobody else knows the inside of the wreck as well as he does. We penetrated through most incredible passages, most of them too tight to go with the stage cylinder on the side, so often we had to push the stage in front of us and then pull ourselves through to some of the coolest places. But even if we have now seen some places, only a handful of divers have ever seen, there are still tons of awesome places to discover next time. So, by next easter boys! Life's good and then you dive.<20.3.2006>
The fact that I haven't added much photos lately doesn't mean that I haven't been diving actively. We go to Ojamo each weekend and every now and then during the week as well. The reason for the lack of new pics is that we have been practicing skills mostly in the "Helminauha" and "Mario World" and there are more than plenty of pictures from those sites already. So, from now on, I will focus on a better quality and shots from some new places instead of just a massive quantity. Last saturday we dove to "Kiskkokuilu" 20 m level with Timo and I shoot some pictures too. The entrance to this place goes through 28m level, which gives us a quite funny profile.<27.1.2006>
I 've had to cancel far too many dives in Ojamo during the beginning of January to make sure that I wouldn't jeppardise our vacation to Mauritius but it was very close to a no-go desicion anyway. I only sneezed 2 weeks ago and the broken rib that had started to heal actually broke again. This time my chest was taped for the maximum support and I started another pain medication period. Now I'm in Mauritius and I have dived twice already. My rib still keeps reminding me but I don't give it the controll. This place is so beautiful that it would require a lot of broken bones until I would surrender. The island itself is superb, but only moderate underwater. How ever, it is worth coming here, even only for diving.<18.11.2005>
